A dog barking nonstop led an Alabama couple to an epic snake battle in their yard, and it climaxed with the more dangerous of the two reptiles — a copperhead — being swallowed whole.

It happened in Camden, Alabama, and a video of the snake fight was posted on Facebook by the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division. “This is what happens when you bring a copperhead to a kingsnake fight,” the Alabama state agency wrote.

Copperheads are extremely venomous and are notorious for sending people to the hospital, but kingsnakes are immune to most snake venom and “readily eat copperheads, cottonmouths, and rattlesnakes,” stated Outdoor Alabama.

“We went to investigate, as (the dog) had been bitten by a copperhead about a month before,” homeowner, Karen Vick Scarbrough told McClatchy News.

She recorded several videos that were shared on Facebook that show the kingsnake spin itself around the copperhead and squeeze the life out of it. The copperhead can be seen biting the kingsnake multiple times, to no effect.

Scarbrough’s video posts have been viewed over 230,000 times and have gotten dozens of reactions and comments since being posted on social media on May 28.

Most of the comments seem to suggest that the video proves the value of allowing kingsnakes to thrive, while others have sarcastically suggested that Scarbrough needs to move and sell her home.
