A 16-year-old boy is in critical condition after being shot in the neck in the parking lot of Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth Monday afternoon, police say.

The shooting happened before 6 p.m. at the school in the 5700 block of Shelton Street, Fort Worth police said.

Police said a squad of gun violence detectives was searching for the shooter.

Details of what led to the shooting weren’t clear but police said it started with an argument.

A spokesman for Fort Worth Independent School District, Clint Bond, declined to comment and referred questions to police.

It was unclear if the victim is a student at Eastern Hills but the shooting happened in the parking lot outside as a girls’ volleyball game was set to start in the gymnasium.

The game was canceled.

“It’s ridiculous. It’s really sad,” said Kajuana Gale who grew up in East Fort Worth and is now raising her own children there. “It didn’t used to be like this. It’s just getting worse. And I feel for my kids every day.”
