Police arrested the suspect Thursday while the 42-year-old male victim remains in critical, but stable condition.

According to the Harris County Texas Sheriff’s Office, 21-year-old Joana Vara was getting her nails done with her sister, 19-year-old Quetzali Vara on May 29 at Katy Nails at 21945 Katy Freeway in Harris County, west of Houston.

After both received a manicure-pedicure, the sisters became upset with the nail salon owner over the price of the services.

In a news release, deputies stated:

Joana Vara paid and left the store, her sister began again to argue with the owner. [Joana] then re-entered the store and also began arguing with the owner. The owner attempted to push [Joana] from the store.

That’s when, police say, Joana Vara pulled out a handgun and shot the owner.

The sisters then ran from the store and left in an orange Ford Fusion, however, police say the suspect left her phone at the scene.
