A 24-year-old Pawtucket man was sentenced Wednesday to serve six years in federal prison for traveling to Winnipeg, Canada, where he had sex with a 13-year-old girl he met on social media.

It was police in Winnipeg who alerted the Rhode Island State Police and Homeland Security agents that Herbert J. Rodas had flown from Rhode Island to Canada in April 2019, rented a hotel room, and sexually assaulted the teenage girl.

Rodas had communicated with the teen via social media months leading up to the encounter, sending her photos of himself nude and masturbating and convincing her to do the same, authorities said.
